Sakura Science Project 2018

Name: Song Ligang, Zhang Peng

From: the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academicof Sciences, Beijing, China

We feel fortunate toparticipate in “Sakura Sciences” program. From Oct. 31 to Nov. 9, it was such agreat experience to visit and study in Japan. After our successful register in AIST, we started our trip from Tsukuba to Tokyo and Kyoto. On November 2nd, we visited the laboratory in Tsukuba University. Although there were some devices we were familiar with, it was still interesting to us to think about the difference between our group and this laboratory. The design of positron lifetime spectrometer and slow positron beam device is great.

In Tokyo University, Dr.Zhou gave us a presentation about the particle physics experiments. Heintroduced three novel technologies to achieve realize the Ps-BEC. Positronfocusing system, laser cooling, Ps converter & trap sounds great.

After visiting the laboratory, Ito-san, Oshima-san,Brain-san, Ishida-san and Zhou-san held a welcoming party for us. We met students like Yamada-san and Kaori-san. They are kindly and friendly to us. We were very happy to talk about our family name and our teachers and schools with them.

On November 5th morning, our destination was Kyoto University Research Reactor Institute. There was also slow positron beam device operating which positron source produced by gamma-ray or isotope. The brightness and beam size were well-controlled. The Boron Neutron Capture Therapy was a significant way to wipe out cancel cell. After visiting, Professor Atsushi Kinomura introduced the whole team members and technologies to us. In the afternoon, 3rd Kyoto workshopon Positron Sciences started, it contributed to open our eyes about the positronsciences. On evening, we were invited to join a party with workshop members. It was wonderful to meet many kindly people like Yui-san, Toshimi-san and Moemi-san.

We had the honor of giving a talk on November 6th. Ito-san and Tsuchida-san gave us some useful advice and suggestion. For the rest of the time, we went to visit Tsuchida-san’s laboratory. It was so impressive for us. High energy ions generator and beam probes and particle analyzers were what we wanted to know.

On November 7th,we had two days left to enjoy our trip at Tsukuba. First destination, we went to the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization, known as KEK. It is the largest particle physics laboratory in Japan and it’s also famous to researcher fromthe Institute of High Energy Physics in China. Large collider, Synchrotron Radiation Facility are so important to physics and material sciences. We visited the positron devices like TRHEPD (total-reflection high energy positrondiffraction) which was a novel technology for us.

OnNovember 8th, we had a good time in AIST. There was something busy and interesting like doing some experiments, visiting the laboratories, listening researchers’ reports.

At last, we want to appreciate these researchers and our teammates. They give us a happy time during this trip.
